My One New Thing for Improving My Productivity

I've heard from different sources over the years about the importance of either ending or starting the day with a list of priorities. I realized this morning that I have a tendency to turn on my computer and sort of blast away without first reviewing my priorities. How much has this influenced the way I spend my time online? I'm not sure, but after making my priority list I am realizing my work has taken on a much more efficient flow.

What are your best tips for being more productive at work?

  1. First can I say -- your makeup looks great! I can really appreciate the priorities tip because email/facebook/twitter can pretty much suck up your whole day if you allow it. I've been writing an ebook and wouldn't allow myself to even look at anything else until I finished 'x' amount on any given day. Now I have to do the same for other priorities.

    Thanks for the reminder!

  2. I'm a bit OCD, so my productivity is dampened when my work space is not organized the way I like it to be. So what I usually do is sort out everything after my shift ends, that way once I'm back I don't have to tinker away on my desk.

  3. I have one! I add rules to my office outlook to filter incoming emails. That way all my emails are automatically sorted once I launch Outlook. I also use sticky notes application on my PC to remind me of task I need to prioritize for the day. I also set an alarm on the note so I won't miss it.

  4. Priorities! That's the keyword. I also tend to do the same. As soon as I get to my desk i just blast away at anything that first comes to mind, hence I often missed out on important tasks or cram to meet deadlines. One thing I did to change this is to set up reminders on my phone, hope that helps.

  5. Muti-tasking. I admit that it took me a long time to finally reach a point where I can do multiple tasks at the same time if needed. This came after I have grown accustomed to my daily tasks and it just comes out naturally.

  6. My new thing is simple, yet I had ignored it for years. SLEEP.

I was so sleep deprived at one point that it was really hard to focus. So now, my new mantra is to get enough sleep then good work will come easily.

  7. I've recently downloaded an email sorter and Google Taskbar and it significantly increased my daily productivity. My previous problem with going thru hundreds of emails had been resolved by my email sorter so I save hours daily too.

  8. Setting priorities on the start of day works perfectly for me too. Having a clear sight of what needs to be done first help me manage my time easier. I also avoid distractions when I am at work. I try to finish all the tasks I can for the day so it doesn't pile up.
